Customer satisfaction by literally going the extra mile

I've not been blogging as frequently recently. I'm not lazy - I have some pretty good excuses, which, if you read my next few blogs, you'll kind of get the feel for.

When do you make your first impression

I’ve made a new friend in the last few two weeks. He’s from India and has been working closely with me on a project. Let’s call my new friend Mr J for simplicity…

Mr J and I have been spending time travelling together with me as chauffeur and him as interesting alternative to Radio 4.

We hit it off pretty quickly and have had some fascinating conversations about work, life, culture, politics and whatever other subjects have come up.

But we had one conversation that has made an indelible mark on me.

Why is Boyle so hot on youtube?

So there we have it. It’s official. Susan Boyle is the biggest Youtube sensation of all time.

The 47 year old Scottish singer received 1 million hits for every year of her age within 1 week of her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent being posted on Youtube.

47,000,000 views in a week. To put that into context, Obama’s Victory Speech got 18.5 million and the comedic (but real) video of a protester throwing his shoes at George Bush got a shade over 33 million.

Are you losing interest in presentations?

I often use google trends to get a feel for how popular or important certain things are in the mind of the public. If you’ve not used google trends, it simply plots the amount of web search activity relating to a word or phrase over time.

It gives you a feel for whether something is increasing or decreasing in popularity in terms of web content. It also shows whether interest in certain things is cyclical or not. If you want to, you can also compare terms for their relative interest.

How to get customers to pay you more in a recession

We all know that the world is in Global recession. Times are hard and business is tough. Some people have stopped spending altogether, others are still clinging to their last few pennies of retail therapy.

Amidst all of this, there’s one way that you can get people to pay your in a recession, but they must pay for a very specific thing.

Before we get to what they must pay you for, let’s examine why this thing is important to ‘sell’ in the first place.

How to Rustle up a Brand in no time

There’s a Welsh proverb that says “Bad news goes about in clogs, good news in stockinged feet.”

Search google UK for the word ‘brand’ and the number 2 hit will be very different than it was 2 weeks ago. In fact, the number 3 hit is also different.

The rest of the top 10 are in pretty much the same position. I know that search rankings change daily so I’ve put a copy of the google listing below in case you’re reading this in the future.

When your personal impact is laughable

I stumbled upon a website today that immediately resonated with me.

When I wrote the book How to be exceptional, one of the 'models' in the book was dedicated to the importance of your personal style vs. the outcome you are trying to get. In essence, you can aim to get a certain outcome but if you go about it in a way that lacks style, you undermine your personal impact.
