Vodafone has really good customer service. I'll get that out of the way first.
Polite, experienced people who are able to deal with whatever query you throw at them on the call without the need to pass you around. They also keep good call notes so you don't have to re-explain your problems if you call back and they seem to have access to enough information to be able to quickly make customer service decisions. 8 out of 10.
However, I've recently cancelled my Vodafone contract with 12 months left to run at significant cost.
I’m up early on the morning of the last day of a holiday in Barcelona. Everybody else is fast asleep and I’ve been downloading photos onto my mac for safe keeping. I adore Barcelona – there are so many different ways to spend your time here - it’s as if you are in 5 separate cities at the same time. The fact that I’ve been over here to watch my team play in a unique Rugby League match in the Catalan capital has made it even more special this time.
There’s a product that I stumbled across a few weeks back called ‘Contrail’. It’s essentially a bicycle accessory that fits on your back wheel and deposits a coating of coloured chalk onto the surface. As you pedal along, it leaves a coloured tyre mark on the road surface showing where you’ve been.
I’ve only mentioned this to a couple of people and got responses along the lines of “big deal” or “that’s handy”.
During his annual performance review, a friend of mine was told that he needed to attend a presentation skills training course. Because he knows that I deliver training on personal impact and communication he asked for my advice.
His boss had given him a shopping list of things he needed to cover on any suitable course he found. I can only assume that the list was a composition of the topics that his boss has been taught on the various presentation skills courses he’d attended in the past:
I’m in a Delhi hotel room waiting to head back to the airport for my flight home. It’s my second time in the city and it seems to have got crazier since I was last here 5 years ago.
The most mind boggling thing is the traffic. Not the volume of it (although that’s pretty impressive too) but the sheer mentality of the people driving.
I had 2 guitars until the 30th December. One was a bright red Gibson electric and the other is a quirky Martin backpacker acoustic guitar that I bought in the US.
We had family staying with us on the 27th and by the time we had put the kids to bed, I poured myself a beer and got the acoustic out for a relaxing strum. To my horror, it had been broken. Somebody had knocked it over and snapped the ‘nut’ – the little piece of grooved nylon at the top that holds the strings in place.
I went to dinner on Wednesday night at a place in London called ‘Dans le Noir’. It’s a restaurant that serves your entire meal in pitch darkness. You’re led to the table and served by blind waiters and have to eat your meal, pour your wine and interact with your dining partners without the slightest chink of light.
What struck me was how claustrophobic I felt in the darkness. Because I had no frame of reference for the size of the room or how to get to the exit, I felt completely disoriented.
"It is funny how judges both in real life and on Strictly Come Dancing lose touch with the views of ordinary people" - John Sergeant
John pulled out of the Strictly Come Dancing Show today - because he might just win it! A shame really because he's been taken into the hearts of so many ordinary people in Britain. I for one had never watched the show until I heard about John's attempts to dance. As someone who has a poor sense of ...... timing, I can truly relate to John's attempts (and hard work).
One of the 6 instant impact rules is “Express Yourself”.
It remains to be seen how self-expression – given this week’s BBC debacle - will damage the Jonathan Ross brand. It seems life – even if you are Britain’s best-paid presenter - is not always simple.
Terry Wogan, was quoted in the Daily Telegraph today, saying: "If you suspend someone of Jonathan Ross's stature without pay for three months you are diminishing not just him but also his reputation."
