If I cut you in half, what would I see?
I know that’s not a pleasant thought but take it as a metaphor instead of a scene from Kill Bill. If I were to cut you in half and look inside would I find that the way you appear on the outside and the way you are on the inside are consistent?
Congruence is all about being in agreement, harmony or conformity.
Specifically, that the way you look and behave externally, as perceived by others, is consistent with the feelings you have internally. And, then consistent with the way that you would hope others around you feel as part of your current interaction.
Wow, that was a mouthful.
Let’s try again....
Are you in balance with yourself, others and the context that you’re currently part of?
OK I give up. I guess congruence is really hard to explain without an example.
Try this….
7 Samuri is a Premium Vodka. The name isn’t a traditional Russia or Polish Vodka sounding brand (like Vladivar from Varrington) - yet that doesn’t detract from its impact.

For me, its impact comes from the fact that the name, the packaging and most of all, the bottle, are all congruent with each other.
The way I think and feel when I look at it is consistent with its branding. The bottle too is a masterpiece of design.
So, some things are congruent – they just look and feel right.
Some things are incongruent – they just look and feel wrong.
Like a clown giving a presentation or an undertaker with a spotty bow-tie or a hair dresser with terrible hair or teacher who makes grammatical errors in letters sent home to parents.
We’re all congruent sometimes and incongruent at other times.
When we’re congruent, people ‘buy’ us. When we’re incongruent (unconsciously) people don’t ‘buy’ us.
